THE MERINO DIFFERENCE

The Story Behind Our Socks

Hiwassee Trading Co. is made by Crescent Sock Company, a four-generation family business in Niota, Tennessee. Founded in 1902 by an industrial committee led by James L. Burn — who wanted to create work for the community. Crescent built its first mill from handmade bricks baked on site: forty by sixty feet, two stories, with a steam engine in a wing off the back driving the belt-driven knitting machines.

The name Crescent came from the Cincinnati-to-New Orleans train line that ran through Niota.

MERINO, FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Great Merino Wool socks start with great yarn, and plenty of know-how. At Crescent Sock Co., Merino wool is knit with other performance fibers to balance comfort, durability, stretch, and fit. Specialized knitting creates targeted cushioning, support, and breathable zones where your feet need them most.

After knitting, each sock is closed, shaped, finished, and inspected for quality.

The result? Natural Merino performance that helps manage moisture, regulate temperature, and resist odor; whether you’re in a deer stand, working outdoors, casting a line, hiking a trail, or heading wherever the weekend takes you.

Built for work. Made for play. Ready for outside.
